Rachel Shabi is the author of Not the Enemy: Israel's Jews from Arab Lands, a book on Israel's Oriental Jews, and a contributing writer to The Guardian.
Shabi was born to Iraqi Jewish parents. She attended the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland.
Rachel Shabi has written extensively on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Middle East for a variety of national and international newspapers including the Guardian, the Times, English Aljazeera, Jane's Intelligence Digest, Foreign Policy, the New Statesman and the National (UAE). Her book, Not the Enemy - Israel's Jews from Arab Lands, was published in 2009 and received a National Jewish Book award. She was shortlisted for the 2011 Orwell journalism prize and nominated for the 2011 Next Century Foundation cutting edge media award
